The third UFL season less than a month away, and new things are coming. That includes a new set of rules.

This upcoming season has brought a lot of new changes so far, including three new teams joining the United Football League. Now, the UFL has brought up new sets of rules that will bring new perspective and change the game itself.

For this Top 5 article, I highlight the biggest new rules announced by the United Football League. These will include a major reward by kickers, the possibly of no punts whatsoever, and a play now deemed forbidden this side of football. So, let’s take a look…

1. Tush Push Banned

The UFL is banning the Tush Push, the most controversial NFL play that has everyone in football divided on whether it should be legal or not.

Commonly used by the Philadelphia Eagles, this play occurs when the quarterback takes a snap and drives forward with help from his fellow teammates. They help the QB through the defense by physically pushing him from behind.

Honestly, I think it’s good that the league doesn’t want any team trying to take the easiest way to a completion.

2. Four-Point Field Goals

In a stunning first, the league is kicking the field goal rules up a notch with a special rule. Now teams can add four points to their overall score if the kicker succeeds in making a field goal from 60 yards or more.

Of course, the 3-point field goal rule still applies, but this new rule will give kickers a challenge. As the old saying goes, “Without risk, there is no reward.”

3. No Punting Inside the 50-Yard Line

This season, no punting will be allowed anywhere inside the 50-yard line. However, this rule will not apply after the last two minutes of every half.

Once a play is ready to happen inside the 50-yard line, no punting will be allowed even if a penalty or a loss of yards moves the ball behind it. Punts can still happen on the 50-yard line exactly.

Perhaps when we watch the games, we will get a more visual idea of this new rule.

4. One Foot in Bounds

Another rule is that a catch is legal if the player who caught the ball has one foot in bounds. This is usually a rule set in college football in order to increase passing and scoring.

5. New Kickoff Rules

UFL will be adding some new rules for kickoffs. First, all kickoffs begin at the 30-yard line. The 10 remaining players from the kicking team will line up at the receiving team’s 45-yard line.

The football is intended to land at the receiving team’s 20-yard line to the goal line. The ball will be spotted at the 40-yard line if the ball fails to reach this landing zone or goes out of bounds. There will also be two touchback spots at the 40 and 20-yard line.

The UFL kicks off their new season with the Stallions vs. Kings game on FOX at 7:30 PM EST on Friday, Mar. 27th. If you want to see more of the league’s rules, click here.
