The 2025 UFL Championship will see the Michigan Panthers and DC Defenders battle it out to crown a brand new UFL champion.
The Ultimate UFL QB Battle
Defenders QB Jordan Ta’amu and Panthers QB Bryce Perkins are two of the three best quarterbacks in the league this season (the other being Renegades QB Luis Perez). Ta’amu finished the regular season as the second-best QB in the league. In nine games, he made 155 out of 285 completions for 2,153 yards, 17 touchdowns, and four interceptions.
Perkins finished as the fourth-best QB. In seven games, the UFL Offensive Player of the Year managed to make 109 out of 158 completions for 1,342 yards, nine touchdowns, and two interceptions. He has also finished as one of the top five players with the most rushing TDs (5) in the league.
Other Players to Watch
You can expect to see the Defenders going all out on the field. Be on the lookout for All-UFL WR Chris Rowland being a favorite target of Ta’amu to give the ball to. Rowland ended his regular season ranked second in total yards (522), third in total receptions (42), and third in average yards per game (52.2). WR Cornell Powell is another receiver to see as he recorded 29 receptions for 418 yards (8th in the UFL) and seven TDs (1st in the UFL).
Defensively, DEs Derick Roberson and Andre Mintze finished the regular season as the team’s sack leaders with 5.5 sacks. They are also ranked 3rd and 4th in the UFL in that category. Roberson is also third place in the regular season with nine tackles for loss. Another Defender to look out for is DT Joe Wallace who falls in the same category with Roberson and Mintze in the defense.
Panthers RB Toa Taua finished the regular season in first place in rushing TDs (6) just ahead of Perkins and three other UFL players. They also have another weapon in WR Siaosi Mariner, who finished first in the league with a grand total of 528 receiving yards. He’s also averaged 52.8 yards per game (2nd in the UFL) just ahead of his opponent being Defenders’ Rowland.
Their defense also has some of the toughest tacklers that helped Michigan become the fourth-best team in that field. Their three top tacklers are S Kedrick Whitehead, Jr. (66 tackles), OLB Frank Ginda (62 tackles), and S Arnold Tarpley III (60 tackles). Right now, they might be the best Michigan has to counter the offensive maneuvers
2025 UFL Championship: Final Prediction
These teams met in Week 6 where Michigan dominated DC, 38-14. This game taught us that Perkins possessed better accuracy as he had a 72.2 percent completion rate compared to Ta’amu’s 52.8 percent. We also got to see a few names like Panthers’ Ginda and Taua and Defenders’ Roberson and Rowland work towards becoming the biggest names in their group this season.
Each side is almost equal to each other in both offense and defense. However, they each possess more than a few weaknesses. For example, Michigan’s weakness is the lack of takeaways this season. They finished in 7th place with only 10 takeaways. Their opponents, however, finished above them with 16 takeaways. That doesn’t bode well for Michigan. Their defense will have to step up even more if they want to win.
DC has hardly displayed their weaknesses this season. The only thing I could take away from their loss to Michigan last month was the string of penalties they endured. In this game, there is no room for error on either side. Michigan will try to tackle all they can to keep the Defenders offense down, but I believe DC has all the advantages to win. Let’s just hope they learned some lessons from the teams’ last encounter.
