The Cincinnati Bengals and Kansas City Chiefs look to punch their ticket to the Super Bowl in a rematch of last year’s AFC championship this Sunday night.
Here We Go Again
This will be the second consecutive year that these rivals will play in the AFC championship and the fourth time they meet in the span of over a year.
Lately, it has been a back-and-forth battle between them. A team gets dominant in the first half, but the opponents then come out swinging. The question is, will the result be the same if this scenario happens again?
In their last three meetings, including last year’s AFC championship, the Bengals have defeated their rivals by the skin of their teeth (or, to be specific, three points). Fans can thank kicker Evan McPherson for being part of the deciding factor.
The Bengals now have the most wins over Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. A fourth win will see them heading to the Super Bowl, but a dominant win over their rivals will show that Joe Burrow is the only quarterback who can outdo and outplay Mahomes, an elite-level QB, on more than one occasion.
Injury Report
The Chiefs will not have Clyde Edwards-Helaire because he is still on injured reserve. Meanwhile, head coach Andy Reid has confirmed that Mahomes will be starting tonight (sprained ankle). Travis Kelce has been listed as “questionable” with a back injury, but he did practice all week. If he is confirmed to play tonight, he will continue to be monitored. Wide receiver Mecole Hardman is also “questionable” due to a pelvic injury he suffered from week 9. Reid believes he will be ready to suit up.
Alex Cappa (ankle) and Jonah Williams (knee) will not be playing for the Bengals. However, Tre Flowers (hamstring) will be ready to go as well as Hayden Hurst (calf). D.J. Reader was labeled as “limited” on Friday, but Bengals head coach Zac Taylor believes he will be ready for the game as well.
