What many people have feared about Aaron Rodgers since Monday night has now become real.
Multiple sources and an MRI have confirmed on Tuesday that the Jets quarterback has torn his left Achilles tendon. He is now out for the season as a result.
The four-time MVP went down after the fourth snap against the Buffalo Bills last night. His left foot got caught in the turf, and he twisted his body when he tried to escape a sack.
His left calf gave out and had to be helped off the field. Jets head coach Robert Saleh suspected the injury after the game and said, “It’s not good,” when describing Rodgers’s status.
Now, this poorly-timed injury marks the end of a possibly great season for the Jets before it started.
Aaron Rodgers is Done. Is Zach Wilson Ready?
Zach Wilson took over as quarterback after Rodgers was unable to return. He made 14 completions out of 21 for 140 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. The Jets victory against the Bills Monday night was a result of an impeccable defense and well-accurate field goal kicks.
The Jets will now need a new starting quarterback, and while rumors are going around over who the team should bring back into the NFL fold, Saleh has insisted that Wilson is their quarterback.
However, he has been struggling to get on the right foot since his rookie season. In his first two seasons, he recorded a combined total of 345 completions out of 625 attempts for 4,022 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 18 interceptions.
Not the kind of performance you usually expect from a quarterback. That was the reason they signed Rodgers in the first place.
Now if the Jets insist on using Wilson, they will have to do everything they can to get him in better shape for the rest of the season.
