Georgia vs. Alabama isn’t just another marquee matchup – it’s a showdown that carries real weight for legacies, rankings, and the College Football Playoff picture as they collide in the SEC championship.
Alabama In or Out?
This Saturday, Bama will get one last chance to prove why they belong in this year’s CFP bracket. In order to do that, they have to defeat their conference rivals, the Bulldogs.
It’s been quite the ride for Alabama. They started their season with a shocking loss to Florida State before going on an 8-game winning streak. Then, at the worst of times, their winning ways came to a crashing halt against Oklahoma. That loss took them out of the bye spots (1st thru 4th) but kept them in the projections as part of the other eight teams.
Last week, they barely escaped with a 27-20 win against Auburn in the Iron Bowl. Before that, they had an easy time shutting out EIU 56-0. Some fans are probably surprised that they’re still in the running after all of that.
So, will they be in or out? Right now, they’re in limbo, and Saturday will give fans the answer.
2025 SEC Championship: Final Thoughts and Prediction
Alabama has won the last 9 out of 10 meetings against Georgia with the only lossin that timeline being the National Championship of Jan. 10, 2022. These last 10 meetings consisted of appearances in four SEC championships, two National Championships, and four regular season games.
However, most of those past meetings occurred in the Saban era. The previous two meetings were both regular season games under coach Kalen DeBoer. Both games ended with victories and final scores with a difference of less than 10 points.
Georgia is in 3rd place in the CFP while Alabama is in 9th. This means that Bama has the most pressure going into this game because losing means they’re out of the CFP once again.
The Bulldogs may or may not lose their bye spot in the CFP if they lose the game. However, they want to avenge themselves after Bama handed them their only loss on Sept. 27th.
As a fan, I am hoping that Bama will continue the cycle of beating Georgia in SEC championships. Then again, there are no other promises for this game other than at least one of them will make the CFP. Either way, good luck to both.
